Artist’s Note

This programme, ‘Harmonie du Soir’, is inspired by Charles Baudelaire’s poem of the same name — a meditation on the twilight hour as a space of memory, transformation, and introspection.

The works I have chosen weave together light and darkness, nostalgia and vision, intimacy and transcendence. From Chopin’s noble Nocturne to Beethoven’s moonlit drama and Liszt’s final luminous Étude, this music moves through the emotional terrain of evening — a melancholic waltz, a lingering scent, a flicker of memory.

This concert also features two premieres: ‘Penumbra’ by John Frederick Hudson, a work of great atmospheric subtlety, and ‘A Twilight on the Equinox’ by Théophile Krosi- Douté, specially commissioned by NWIMF. These works speak to the spirit of this occasion: a celebration of creativity, introspection, and cultural dialogue.
